are you serious?

Thanksgiving Break can't be over, can it?

I definitely enjoyed it, but it seems way too short to me. I'm counting days till Christmas Break. :P (only three weeks!!)

So I thought I would post some comics I like, to cheer you up. :P This comic strip, Pearls Before Swine, is probably my favorite in the paper. So many comics anymore are just too politically oriented to be funny anymore. But there are still a few comics that still provide some comical line to your breakfast. ;)

Pearls Before Swine

And here's another one I liked:

Pearls Before Swine

Bizarro is usually pretty funny too. :)

Hopefully those are funny for y'all- My family seems to think my sense of humor is "out there" and not "funny". I'm not sure what they're talking about... but these are great. ;P

Enjoy your last few hours of break!

what we've been up to

We went to the beach yesterday.

It was a little chilly, but some of the little kids thought it was warm enough to swim. :P The others played in the sand, or ran around finding seashells.

I also got to see the new Harry Potter film this morning with my dad, my sister, my friend and his dad. :) It was great! I can't wait till Part 2. :P

This afternoon we went to Charles Towne Landing. That's where the original colonists of Charleston landed, and it's a very neat park/zoo. :) Unfortunately, I forgot my camera, so I don't have any pictures right now. But our friends brought theirs, so once I get those I'll post them. :)

Here is my favorite picture from the beach. It's perfect. :)

Happy Thanksgiving!

A New Blogging Friend

I love it when a friend makes a blog. :) My amazing friend Isaac (who's visiting us right now) saw that we had blogs, and decided he would make one too! He loves Christian music, so his blog is about his favorite music. I'm super duper excited because I might be able to catch up a little with the modern Christian music now! I live too much in the past. :P But anyways, go check out his blog!

I'll try and post soon-

16, food and friends

That's what I've been up to lately. :) Well, that and cleaning. ;)

Our friends from Pennsylvania arrived yesterday afternoon! They have five children, and I definitely must say I have a much higher respect for their mother. ;) I'm not saying they're naughty or anything, but just the fact that there are five different people that she keeps track of and takes care of. :)

a flower by the water....perfect. :)

We started off our morning today with a rousing game of capture the flag. The we hopped in the car and went to the park, where everyone got soaked in the fountains. :P We came home for lunch, then we went back outside to play frisbee, basketball/volleyball, fairies, and various other games. :) I have a feeling I will be pretty sore tomorrow morning after all of my capture the flag running and chasing my little friend around on his "truck". :P
he calls himself "Muccah", but his real name is Micah. :P

Thanksgiving is only three days away! I'm excited, but I know we'll be busy cooking and cleaning. My Dad's family is coming over, along with a friend of my Mom's and the company we already have staying with us. But I'm sure it will be a blessing to everyone there. :) Southern food is the best. No doubt about it. And Thanksgiving is just a great way to enjoy all the delicious foods whose recipes have been passed down through generations. :) (maybe I could share a recipe! that would be fun...)

i like this picture for some reason... kinda abstract in a way. idk. :)

One of my really good friends just turned sixteen on Saturday! I start thinking about me turning sixteen in a few months, and it gives me a strange feeling. Am I really scared about getting older? I hope not. :P I'm excited, but I know the more years you have, the more responsibilities. :) But I still have a few more months to enjoy my pre-sixteen life. :D

my sister (left) and her fairy friend...

I've enjoyed my break so far... I've actually had time to email my friends and catch up! :) How have you been spending your break?

picture quotes

I love quotes. Very much. And I love it when I find a quote, and have just the right picture to put it with. And Picnik helps quite a bit with that too. ;) So today, fairies and imagination were on my mind. Here are some that I did:

I have a bunch more of these kinds of pictures on another computer that I might post some other time. :) But for now, happy weekend! :)

caterpillars!

Call me a nerd if you want, but I really do love caterpillars. And the whole life cycle of butterflies. It is very fascinating. :) For those of you who don't read the "family" blog, you can see my series of posts on the life of a Monarch here. :)

And I might as well add some pictures from the past few days just for fun. ;)

Monday, Monday

I think that almost every Monday, I am reminded of the song Monday, Monday by The Mamas and the Papas. Fairly decent song, I might add. :)

Today I'm happy because I know that a week from right now, we will have some of our very dear friends staying with us for the whole week of Thanksgiving Break. :) I'm excited. :) I'm even more excited that we'll hopefully see the new Harry Potter movie with them!

But as far as today goes, I will be very relieved when it's over and I can climb back into bed. :) I have a rhetoric assignment due tomorrow that I need to get started on, and then I have two volleyball games tonight. Then of course all of my other homework that needs to be done. :) Oh, how I'm looking forward to next week... :)

On a different note, I've been thinking about getting Picnik Premium. I've wanted it for a while, but never really thought it would be worth it. But seeing as holidays are coming up, it might come in handy for Christmas cards and scrapbooks if I can find time to make them. :) Any of you premium Picnikers have something that might ultimately persuade me to get it? ;P

25 Secrets

Miss Emilyann has tagged me! I'm excited; tags are always fun. :) She tagged me over at my familys blog, but I'm going to post it here instead. :) The tag is to list 25 Secrets, or as Emily put it, "25 Things About Yourself That Very Few People Know, and Very Few People Care About." :P

1. I am a very, very bad packrat. Especially when it comes to vintage items. For example, I have two old typewriters (one electric, one not), and I was shopping at a garage sale and saw an amazing old typewriter that came in a carrying case! I loved it. But I'm thankful my mom didn't let me, because two typewriters is enough. :P

2. I love rappelling. Normally, I wouldn't dare do anything like that, but on a trip to Utah one summer, I did it, and it is one of the funnest things I've ever done.

3. I really can't stand it when a man spits. In public. In front of ladies. My opinion and respect of him is automatically lowered to the floor.

4. I have some weird case of watery eye syndrome. I have no idea why it happens, but it really looks like I'm crying. And what bugs me, is I'm NOT crying. I don't cry in Sunday School, or at my piano lesson! It's just my eyes. Trust me. :P

5. (for all you VP students) I love Omnibus II more than I or III. The books were soooo interesting. I'd take it again if I could. :)

6. I have had the lovely chance of being a ball girl for the Family Circle Cup here in Charleston. It's a professional womens tennis tournament. I did it 3 years in a row, but school and classes (along with other reasons) have prevented me from doing it the past two years.

7. Thrift stores are my favorite place to shop. I could spend hours shopping in just one store. :)

8. I have almost completely mastered playing the Keith Green song "Soften Your Heart" on the piano. Now I just need to work on singing along. ;)

9. I clench my teeth at night. I hate it. It gives you jaw pain and headaches all day long. I could give the dentist a hug who invented those things that prevent clenching. They don't completely solve my problem, but it helps with the daytime pain.

10. I could listen to Dancing in the Moonlight by King Harvest over and over and over again. And I have. :P

11. I'm an alto in my choir. I love singing low. :P For some reason, I love those low bass sounds, whether they be intrument or voice.

12. I still sleep with my stuffed animals. Four, actually. And they all have names.

13. I love to dress up. Especially as a nerd, or a tourist (go figure).

14. I am still trying to master my left and right. I still do the "L" shape with my left hand to make sure. And yes, I've actually used the wrong blinker while driving. Twice.

15. I'm always the person who doesn't get the joke. And then everyone stops laughing at the joke to laugh at me, who, of course starts laughing because she knows she didn't get the joke, and she probably never will.

16. I was a junior spy when I was little. I loved the Spy Kids movies, and of course, wanted to be a spy too. Ahh, those were the days.... :)

17. I love living in the South. The beach, the food, the people, the signs... :) My favorite sign I've seen was at a local restaurant, and it said they had "slap yo' mama good eatin'". :D

18. I have started writing everything in cursive. My homework, my notes, even my journal. It's nowhere near pretty, but it's definitely better today than it was when I started. :)

19. Over the summer, I taught myself how to knit little flowers. I was very proud of myself. :) I need to refresh my skils for the upcoming Christmas season. :D

20. I love the movie Napoleon Dynamite. And it really does break my heart when my close friends don't appreciate it. :P

21. I lack any sort of cooking.bakeing skill. My knowledge goes just about as far as cereal and Kraft macaroni and cheese.

22. I never knew pickles were just cucumbers that had gone through a process called "pickling". I always thought a pickle was just a long green vegetable that people put in jars of juice. Oops.

23. I enjoy late night talks with my sister. I honestly don't think I could laugh as hard with anyone else as I do with her. We talk about everything from slugs to the way people exaggerate their blinks.

24. The most far-fetched book I've read is called Tunnels. It's actually rather frightening in places, and imagining weird, evil, pale people who live underground is pretty strange.

25. I still believe in Santa Claus. And fairies (mainly because my little sister happens to be one). And I doubt you could find one reasonable reason why I, or anyone, shouldn't believe in those things. :P

Well. There you go. 25 Things about me. A big hug and congratulations if you finished that whole list. :P

I will tag Kaeleen at Carrying an Umbrella During a Drought, my sister Grayce at The Memoirs of G.C. Owens and anyone else who wants to. Just be sure to let me know so I can read it! ;)

Always trust your fortune cookie

There is a restaurant near our house that specializes in Oriental foods, but my favorite part of the meal is the fortune cookie. A lot of times the fortune at least makes a little bit of sense, but sometimes you have to wonder what the author was taking when he/she wrote it. :P

In one cookie, the fortune was "A clever crow always paints its feather black".

Mhm. Yeah. That makes perfect sense.

And because it makes such "perfect" sense, I have kept it on display in my room. It's a great reminder and comfort that we don't need to trust in those silly little fortune cookie phrases to get by. ;)

Have you gotten any strange fortune cookies?

miscellany

As with most bloggers, some days are totally void of inspiration for posts. But on other days, I'm overflowing with amazing ideas. Scheduling posts is a great solution to that problem, except when I have no time to put my thoughts down. :) School has been taking up quite a bit of my time lately, but I hope soon I will be able to post more. :) So here are a few pictures I found from last year about this time.

Beauty tips...

"For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone."         ~Audrey Hepburn
If you read my posts on my family blog, you probably know I like quotes. A lot. But I was once looking around to see what Audrey Hepburn had to say that people thought worth recording, and I was actually surprised to find this one. I admire Audrey Hepburn for her style, but I don't agree with her on most other things. ;)

In her quote, I definitely think women should keep those things in mind. Women in general tend to look for the bad in others, as well as talking behind other people's backs. And we all need a reminder to know that we are not walking alone. I doubt Audrey meant God when she said this, but we as Christians can put God in that place. We truly are never alone.

Audrey Hepburn hit it right on the money. ;)

Raindrops keep fallin...

Yesterday, I was looking around for this song, 'Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head' because it's a beautiful song. And while I was searching, I came across this video of an amazing kid playing this amazing song amazingly well. I love it. I could listen to it over and over and over and over again. :) So I hope you enjoy as much as I do.

a pink flower

(No, I couldn't think of a more creative title) :)

I have no idea what this plant is called, but the flower is gorgeous. It still hasn't fully bloomed, but sometimes I like flowers before they've fully bloomed rather than after. :) I really love how it's almost billowy. I can't think of the exact word to describe it, but I'm sure you get my point. What do you think? :)

my philosophy on blogging

My Dad came across this website a few years ago, and reading through all of their posters is so much fun! The original motivational posters are pretty pathetic in my opinion, but these de-motivational posters are amazing. :D They have one on blogging, and I full-heartedly agree with them:

Blogging Demotivator

So go check out their website and see which ones are your favorites. ;)

a weekend with a friend

I take a few online classes through Veritas Press, and they really are a blast. Great teachers, and great students. Last year, I became friends with a girl in my Logic 2 class, and discovered that her family spends most of the year out west, but comes east for a few months each year. So this past weekend, my Mom, sisters and I packed up the car and drove for a while to go visit my friend and her family! They live on the gulf coast, so I got to see a lovely beach with clear water and white sand (as opposed to our dark sand and murky water).

We had a great time, and I'm so thankful I was able to go visit her and meet her for the first time! :) We watched a few movies, ate some delicious food, spent a long (but fun) day at the beach, and talked late into the night. And even though we just got back last night, we're already hoping to see them again soon. ;)

My friend has been a great encouragement to me in the past year, and she is always there to talk to. She is also one of the smartest people I know of, and is truly gorgeous inside and out. I could not have asked for a better friend! :)

I hope everyone else had a great weekend too!
